As the Covid-19 death toll in the U.S. surpasses 218,000, the New York Times revealed this week that while President Donald Trump in February lied to Americans about the coronavirus outbreak being “very much under control,” his economic advisers at the same time warned wealthy Republican donors and members of a right-wing think tank behind closed doors that a public health crisis of the magnitude expected would severely affect the U.S. and world economy.

A Tribute to Dr. Strange

In October 1965, a small commune called the Family Dog threw an unusual dance at Longshoreman's Hall, starring a rock band called the Charlatans that had played the previous summer at the Red Dog Saloon, a restored silver rush dance hall in Virginia City, Nevada. The second-billed group, which had an even weirder name, Jefferson Airplane, was making its first appearance outside the Marina District nightclub it had opened the month before. The third act on the bill, the Great Society, featured a former model from Palo Alto named Grace Slick.

More than a thousand people turned up for the dance. Hair flowing over their collars, the revelers were dressed cheerfully in colorful discards plucked from thrift stores. During 1975 I was working on some statistic (computer) programs and accidentally ran across numbers showing fifty percent (50%) of 'the people' who could vote, were not registered, or showing up at the polls to vote. In other words, plain and simple, APATHY was at hand!

Simultaneously, I was growing tired of political arguments; especially, 'voting for lesser of evils', decided to come up with an alternative, and here is the result..

The least expensive, most effective, way to implement political change was to do away with the office of president, the entire Senate, and let Congress run the country ...or include NONE of the ABOVE as a valid choice on voter ballots.

On December 8, 1975 I discussed these statistics with Wavy Gravy and he replied, "You mean Nobody is winning Presidential elections?"

That question became a spark that ignited the Birthday Party's Nobody for President campaign, which decided to support an easy, cost-effective, way to restore political balance:

None of the Above
should be a valid choice on voter ballots.

Unfortunately, a jaded two party system rejects this simple fix because Nobody has all the answers and believes: if a majority of citizens voted for None of the Above, rather than lesser of evils, voters would have to find someone competent to lead them !!! The media said, "Nobody could argue with that logic."

(1) Put "None of the Above" on voter ballots.

(2) Change requirements for President:

(a) Extremely hard civil service exam.
(b) Top scores compete in Prezolympics.
(c) Top 10 winners become candidates.
(d) Election winner becomes President.
(e) Gets device implanted in brain that explodes if a lie is told.

(3) Hire a Ribbon Cutter for President.

(a) Saved money pays off national debt.

(4) Declare election day a holiday.

(a) Voting receipt required for pay.

(5) Tie election participation to jury duty.

(a) Those who don't vote go on jury rolls.

Nobody brought peace to our time, lowered taxes for the majority, balanced the budget, fed the hungry & destitute, established a corporate death penalty, created free health care, ordered Congress & Senate to use same benefits as "The People," reminded everybody Jesus said, "Love one another," and ...bakes apple pie better than Mom!

TRUMP Prophecy: Twisted Irony via Angela

On the campaign trail back in 2016, then candidate Donald Trump boasted, "I could stand in the middle of 5th avenue and shoot someone and I wouldn't lose any voters..."

Fast forward to 2020. At the onset of the COVID 19 outbreak back in January, President Trump deemed it a "Democratic hoax" and opted to ignore the warning signs from China and other countries as they struggled to manage the mounting impact of the deadly virus.

On January 26- China's health minister warned that people can spread the virus before showing symptoms, making the virus much harder to contain. A veteran adviser for a US health agency told CNN this bit of information was a "game changer."

Feb 28- at a campaign rally in South Carolina, the President stated again that the virus is a "Democratic hoax”.

On March 6-- the first three cases were reported in the U.S....by the end of the day there were 332 total. No action was taken by the President. Instead, he compared it to the "common cold"....this was the beginning of a series of miscalculations and poor judgement by the current administration that placed American lives at risk. I’m not a lawyer, but negligent homicide seems very fitting. (Negligent homicide is a criminal charge brought against a person who, through an act of negligence, ALLOWS another person to die).

March 9- the President tweeted "So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are only 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. "Think about that!"
On the very same day, Italy was in PANIC MODE with 565 cases.

March 11- The outbreak was officially declared a pandemic by The WHO.

March 14- A Strict travel ban overseas FINALLY imposed

March 27- The United States confirmed at least 101,242 cases based on figures collated by Johns Hopkins University, overtaking China (81,782) and Italy (80,589). The US death toll surpassed 1,500.

In spite of the numbers, the country has not been placed on lockdown by the Commander in Chief...the decision has been left to the states. Meanwhile, the body count continues.

March 29- New York state's official death toll exceeds 1,000.

I won't bother mentioning the fact that the three months wasted (Jan-April) SHOULD have been spent preparing...

In closing...

He boasted of killing New Yorkers in the middle of the street and still maintaining his base....in reality, his poor judgement and failure to act in a manner that fosters good will for the American people has resulted in an insurmountable loss of life in the absence of a gun--but ironically--still in the good graces of his base. ~ Angela

We begin as always with a couple of hours of oldies back to back to back beginning at 6am (EDT) on Saturday’s Boptime. At 8am (EDT) on the Heart & Soul of Delaware Rock & Roll we’ll have selections from Lue Caz, the Tradewinds, the Mello Souls, the Dynamic Concepts and others from the 1960s, followed by the Morrie Sims Show at around 8:30am (EDT). At 9am (EDT) on the Club Baby Grand we’ll listen to radio segments featuring Betty Roché with Duke Ellington at Birdland, and Clifford Brown from the Basin Street Club, both from New York City. We’ll round out the hour with some tunes performed and composed by Wilmington jazz vibraphonist Lem Winchester. ~ Steve

The Sacred Clowns ~ Heyókȟa

The Heyókȟa symbolize and portray many aspects of the sacred, the Wakȟáŋ. Their satire presents important questions by fooling around. They ask difficult questions, and say things others are too afraid to say. By reading between the lines, the audience is able to think about things not usually thought about, or to look at things in a different way.

Principally, the Heyókȟa functions both as a mirror and a teacher, using extreme behaviors to mirror others, thereby forcing them to examine their own doubts, fears, hatreds, and weaknesses. Heyókȟas also have the power to heal emotional pain; such power comes from the experience of shame--they sing of shameful events in their lives, beg for food, and live as clowns. They provoke laughter in distressing situations of despair and provoke fear and chaos when people feel complacent and overly secure, to keep them from taking themselves too seriously or believing they are more powerful than they are.

In addition, sacred clowns serve an important role in shaping tribal codes. Heyókȟa's don't seem to care about taboos, rules, regulations, social norms, or boundaries. Paradoxically, however, it is by violating these norms and taboos that they help to define the accepted boundaries, rules, and societal guidelines for ethical and moral behavior. This is because they are the only ones who can ask "Why?" about sensitive topics and employ satire to question the specialists and carriers of sacred knowledge or those in positions of power and authority. In doing so, they demonstrate concretely the theories of balance and imbalance. Their role is to penetrate deception, turn over rocks, and create a deeper awareness.
